View Full Version : Can't respond to locked thread

OK, now a mod is asking me if I'm Fred Goodwin, and the answer is "yes" but I can't respond in the thread because it is locked and I can't respond via PM because I don't have enough posts.
I understand the anti-spam motive behind the post requirement, but when I'm asked a question, it makes it kinda hard to reply when the thread is locked and I can't PM.
Sorry to start yet another thread on this.

sorry about that Fred...i didn't even notice the thread had been closed!
i was in the aspf-dc newsgroup with you. it was you, me, Bear, and some others against trolls like leesraidersrule, and the idiots from the green bay forum, Holder, Uncle Fester...LOL! what ever happened to Bear? i heard he went to the silverstar forum, or something like that. he was also registered here, although i don't remember him posting much, if at all here.
btw, my nick in aspf-dc was "Bob."

Thanx Bob. If you remember me, then you know I'm not a spammer (the other mod doesn't know me so I don't fault him for what he did). So now I'd like to ask a question.
The original PM I got said I spammed the group. I posted about a book about Don Meredith. As you know, he retired over 40 years ago w/o writing a biography. Many of us old-timers have wanted to read a Meredith biography for years. So after I finally found one, I thought I'd post an announcement about it, thinking others would want to know about it. I wasn't selling the book, I only posted ordering info.
So that post was considered spm by at least one mod, yet it didn't violate any posted rule (which I read before posting). I can post links to articles about Meredith and those aren't considered spam. But post info about a Meredith book, and that's spam?
What's wrong with this picture?

You're right, there's no explicitly written out rule against spam at the moment. It's dealt with on a case by case basis. We're in the process of fixing that though.

@fannypack:
re: PM'ing admins as you mentioned in the closed thread: yes, I recall seeing that warning, but I thought Administrators were a user class, not an ID and that I needed to reply to an ID. If you're saying I can PM to "Administrators" then I apologize for not understanding that.
re: Spam: to be clear, I agree that spam is a violation of forum rules, even if unwritten. I just disagree that my OP about the Meredith book was spam, for the reasons I give above.
Thanx

I delivered the strike.
I can reverse it for you. We get posters who come on and post links to things to buy all the time and we strike them for it.
We don't allow the posting of SPAM or other websites without the permission of the sites Owner or another Admin.
We'll get this all straightened out for you.

@domer_und: thanx -- maybe I should've posted to "Classifieds" and spared everyone the trouble.

Hey Fred,
My name is Joshskeety, owner of the Forum.. The reason for the heightened security is due to a hack attempt a few months ago by a crazed (jealous) Saints fan.. I know spam or any of that has much to do with hacking, but its just another step to keep my Mods from pulling their hair out and looking like me (I shave my head, lol)..
My Mods are the best in the business and we strive for fairness and moderation and sometimes its hard to differentiate fact from fiction with things and you got caught in a constant crossfire.. I apologize for that..
Anyhow, welcome to the Forum, we have a great bunch of rabid fans here so pull up a chair, if you need anything feel free to ask we love to accommodate..
Thanks again and sorry for the trouble!

@Joshskeety: thanx for the welcome and no problem about your mods.
I moderate a few boards and forums myself, I know how difficult it can be, especially when members like me start whining! I reposted my announcement in the Classified section where it should have gone in the first place.
I look forward to discussing the Cowboys rather than forum rules!
